ART'LOFT — KIM HYUN-SIK

05 : KIM HYUN SIK BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1965, Sancheong, South of Korea. He lives and works in Ulsan. The work of Kim Hyun Sik is at the border between painting and sculpture, the seen and the unseen, therefore suggesting ambiguous narratives. His use of the epoxy resin as a new method of artistic expression, calls out to the public’s perception, encouraging viewers to look deeper and to meditate on the numerous layers displayed, as well as on the transparent spaces which create the originality of his work today.

Beyond the visible…

His early works captured space, form, and what is beyond the visible, in hyper-realistic visuals (hair series) and visual illusions (waterfall series). It was intended as a device to draw in the beholder. He then decided to work on much more abstract tint-blocks, because he felt that the form of those earlier works was distorting his artistic purpose.

« Now completely devoid of form and composed only of layered lines of color, I am making experimental excursions into the world beyond the visible. I still dream of journeys, and imagination unbound… ”My” in between space is a conditioned, poetic, creative space.»
